Persistent poverty can cause a whole community to abandon hope and become stoic. The way they cope with their situation is to reduce expectations and choose the only way out \u2013 just laze around. A visit to a community such as this gives the visitor the impression that it is a \u201csleepy community.\u201d Our CHE team partners in Togo didn\u2019t give up but worked patiently with the community in this story from Togo:<\/p>\n

For decades, the stigma of a “lazy village” clung to this community in Togo. Struggling to break free from the cycle of dependence, they yearned for change. Two years ago, a turning point arrived in the form of the MAI partner CHE team.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Instead of dictating solutions, the CHE team encouraged self-reliance. The community, ignited by a spark of hope, set to work. Unfamiliar but promising, pineapple farming became a pilot project. Despite skeptics who dismissed it as a waste of time, the team persevered. Their dedication bore fruit, literally, as the first harvest yielded an abundance beyond anyone’s expectations.<\/p>\n

This success shattered doubts and ignited a collective desire. Everyone wanted a piece of the pineapple revolution. Simple yet effective techniques, like composting and making liquid fertilizer from local resources, empowered villagers to work together, pooling their strengths and knowledge. The camaraderie replaced years of individual struggle.<\/p>\n

The success of the pineapple crop led to a greater interest in agriculture.<\/strong> Children, who once faced hunger, looked towards a brighter future. Confidence replaced the self-doubt that had lingered for generations.
