As Devadasis, they had been trapped in a system that once dictated their fate, only to later find themselves abandoned by the very society that shaped their lives. They were invisible—pushed aside, unheard, and unwelcomed.

Survival was a daily battle. With no financial security and no place in the community, they relied on what little they could earn, struggling to provide for their children. The doors of opportunity had always been closed to them. But that was about to change.

A New Chapter Begins

When our team met these women, we saw more than their past—we saw their potential. Through a series of training sessions in savings, financial literacy, and self-help group (SHG) formation, we equipped them with the tools to rebuild their lives on their own terms.

They learned how to manage money, start small businesses, and support one another. With each session, confidence began to replace fear. But something even greater happened: they encountered hope.

As they gathered each week, they were introduced to stories of faith and redemption. They were no longer just learning financial skills; they were discovering their worth. It was a reminder of Jesus’ words in Luke 4:18:

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.”

These women were once trapped in a system that oppressed them. But now, they were experiencing the freedom and dignity that comes through knowing Christ and being empowered to build a new future.

Breaking the Barriers of Rejection

For years, these women had been told they didn’t belong. Could they ever be accepted? Would the community ever see them as more than their past?

Their hearts longed for something more—so they took a bold step. They walked into the local church, unsure of what to expect.

And then, something remarkable happened.

Because the church had also received training on holistic transformation, the response was different from what they feared. Instead of rejection, they were met with open arms. Instead of judgment, they were embraced as sisters.

Now, every Sunday after service, a miracle unfolds—these 12 women, once cast out by society, sit and share meals with people from all backgrounds. The barriers of caste and social status are breaking down. The outcasts have become part of the family.

It is a living picture of Galatians 3:28:

“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Why This Story Matters

This is more than just the story of 12 women. It’s a story of what happens when dignity is restored, when empowerment takes root, and when a community chooses love over exclusion.

At Medical Ambassadors International, we believe that true transformation happens when people discover their God-given worth and unlock their potential. Through faith-rooted action and hope-filled relationships, we equip communities to break cycles of poverty, build sustainable solutions, and restore lives with dignity.

Be Part of the Next Story

Right now, there are countless women like these 12, waiting for someone to believe in them—waiting for a door to open.

Pray for more communities to experience this kind of transformation.
Give to support programs that equip women with financial and leadership skills.
Share this story to inspire others to take action.

Together, we can empower, restore, and transform lives—one woman, one family, one community at a time.

The Fate of the Faceless: 12 Women No Longer Forgotten In a small village in South Asia, a group of 12 women carried a painful legacy.
